In the 19th century, leading piano pedagogues stressed importance of accuracy and speed in playing. "Nothing is worse than wrong notes," wrote Czerny, only to be chastised by Beethoven asking for more musical teaching. 20th 21st-century research has shown that this technic-interpretation divide a false dichotomy: even early-level students are able discern emotional expression form while simultaneously building their technic. It time fully integrate technic interpretation into one holistic teaching approach. A knowledge-based approach will incorporate insights derived from current aural perception motor learning. These include audiation: ability sing inwardly, think sound understand every detail music making without physical presence sound. Building student’s sense interoception, awareness sensations inside body; proprioception, consciousness limb position movement outside body, facilitate technical development.
